Jamie Moore Named Acting Police Chief

Word came out of City Hall yesterday that Captain Jamie Moore will take over as Methuen’s Acting Police Chief once Chief Scott McNamara retires on August 24. Mayor Beauregard made it official Thursday afternoon.
Moore’s been around a while and done it all which makes him a great choice to help steady the department in this time of transition. He signed on back in 1993, started out working dispatch, and eventually made the jump to patrol. Thirty-plus years later he’s one of the more familiar names in the building. He currently runs the Special Services and Professional Standards Bureau… the accreditation, training, and policy side of things that most folks never see but that keeps the whole operation on the rails. He earned his Captain’s stripes just last year, and topped the state Civil Service list on the way to the promotion.
The Mayor didn’t hold back on the praise, calling Moore a leader who’s earned respect both inside the department and out in the community, and someone he trusts to keep things steady through the changeover. He also took a minute to thank McNamara, who announced his retirement earlier this year, for a long run of service to the city.
One thing worth flagging: Moore is the acting chief, not the permanent one. The city says it’ll run a full search for McNamara’s replacement, open to candidates from inside and outside the department, with more details expected in the coming weeks. So this definitely won’t be the last word on who’s leading MPD.
