Salisbury, Mass. – August 11, 2026 The Catmobile, Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society’s (MRFRS) convenient mobile low-cost cat spay and neuter clinic, today announced the addition of a full-time veterinary team and an expanded operating schedule to better serve cat owners throughout northeastern and central Massachusetts. Starting in August, the Catmobile will operate Monday – Thursday each week, bringing accessible spay and neuter services directly to local communities, including Methuen, Lowell, Framingham, Salem, and other surrounding cities and towns. The expansion includes a dedicated full-time staff of veterinarians and veterinary technicians committed to high-quality, compassionate care. Catmobile’s fully equipped mobile surgical clinic offers low-cost spay and neuter procedures in a stress-reduced environment, with the added convenience of coming directly to local neighborhoods, community centers, and partner locations. The spay/neuter package include pre-surgical exams, surgery performed by licensed veterinarians, vaccinations, microchipping, and heartworm and flea preventatives.
“Removing barriers to responsible pet care aligns with our organization’s mission to help cats and the people who care about them,” said Erin Watson, Executive Director of MRFRS. “By adding full-time professional staff and increasing our availability to four days a week, we’re making it easier and more affordable for families, students, young professionals, and budget-conscious cat parents to spay or neuter their cats. This directly helps reduce overpopulation, prevents unwanted litters, and improves the health and well-being of cats across Massachusetts.”

About Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society (MRFRS)
MRFRS was founded in 1992 in response to the 300+ cats along the Merrimack River in Newburyport. The effort the organization’s founders launched was one of the first in the nation to use the Trap-Neuter-Return process to improve the lives of free-roaming cats. Once all the cats had been trapped and fixed, they were fed twice a day at the waterfront feeding stations and monitored for illness, injury and any new additions. In 1993, MRFRS opened its first adoption center and then, in 2003, moved to the current location in Salisbury, MA. In 2000, the organization started offering free monthly spay/neuter clinics for feral cats, and in 2008, launched the Catmobile program to provide convenient and low-cost spay/neuter services in local communities. Since its inception, MRFRS has improved the lives of over 151,000 cats and kittens.
