Seventh and eighth graders at the Tenney, Timony, CGS, and Marsh schools got a look at their future this month when the Methuen High School Road Show rolled into their buildings.

The event featured current Methuen High students sharing what life is like as a Ranger — in the classroom, on the stage, on athletic fields, and in the community. The program is designed to help future MHS students and families learn about the various  opportunities awaiting them in high school.

Principal Tony Curet welcomed the middle schoolers, while Kevin O’Loughlin, Grade 9 Associate Principal, spoke about what it takes to make a strong transition to high school and succeed as a freshman. They were joined by Martha Tatro, School Counseling Department Chair, and Tom Ryan, Athletic Director, who highlighted the supports, programs, and athletic offerings that help every student find their place at MHS.

Representing the student body were MHS scholars Melany Reyes, Vincent DeMaio, Jillian McSweeney, Alismeiry Shepard, Lydia Plunkett, Yasmine Bridaa, Sabiel Sanchez, Ethan Montas, Evelin Angel Zacarias, and Amir Ghattas. Dressed in Ranger Blue shirts printed with the slogan “We Will Get You There,” they shared stories of their experiences — from performing arts and academics to athletics, service, and leadership — showing younger students that Methuen High offers something for everyone.

The speakers shared that  MHS students are surrounded by people who want to see them succeed, “The community of Methuen loves to support us,” said one student speaker.

The presentation also spotlighted college and technology career pathways, the After Dark partnership with Greater Lawrence Technical School, and the 18 Advanced Placement courses available — including one offered in the summer. Methuen High is one of only 40 schools in Massachusetts with its own ice rink and provides externship experiences where students gain hands-on professional skills, even designing websites for local companies.

Recent graduates have gone on to Harvard, Clemson, Stanford, and other top universities — a reflection of Methuen High’s commitment to preparing students for success in college, careers, and life.

Families will have their own chance to learn more during the upcoming MHS Road Show for Parents, which will offer an overview of programs, academic pathways, athletics, and support services for incoming ninth graders. Details and dates will be shared soon on the Methuen High School website and on Methuen Minutes, the school’s YouTube news program.
